Want a DISCOUNT?

If your commission idea will work as a print that I can sell, I will give you a 10% discount. This means canon characters only, or generic characters if it's not IP-related. By accepting this discount, you give me the rights to sell the finished product in whatever form I see fit (usually prints, t-shirts, phone cases, etc). I will be the final arbiter of what counts for a discount and what does not.

Armor: $20 extra per Character
Unfortunately, armor and armor design is very time consuming! If you want complex armor on your character, I'll have to charge you extra.

Revisions: $10 per revision
With the exception of the single free revision during the sketch phase, all further revisions are $10 a piece. If the mistake is on my part, however, I will fix it for free.

Rush Fee: $20 for sketches/avatars; $30 for characters; $50 for complex commissions
Need something faster than your slot on the queue? You can pay a rush fee to jump you ahead to the top. This is only for emergencies; this means that I will be taking extra time out of my day and working later to make sure that you get it on time. Do not do this on a whim.

Rights to Sell: $100
If you're asking me to design something that you can reprint and sell on merchandise, I charge an extra $100 for that.

Complex/Painted Commissions

If you want something more complex or painted nicely, or to have revisions at each step of the process (pencils/inks/colors), talk to me with your idea and I'll give you a quote. Those are usually at least $100 and usually higher.
Examples:

Process

  1. Send me an email at artist@cvilbrandt.com with your idea. Please include any references (art, descriptions, etc). Please do not send me a Note. I need to keep paper trails for taxes and deviantart notes don't serve well.
  2. I will reply with a quote ASAP.
  3. Send the money through your chosen payment option.
  4. That reserves you a spot in the queue. You can keep an eye on your position on my front page, beneath the journal widget. I update it every time I work on commissions.
  5. As soon as I finish the sketch, I'll send it your way for approval. You may make one major revision. You MUST look the sketch over carefully; except for the first revision, every further one is subject to my revision fee.
  6. Please approve the sketch quickly! That's the only way I can get it done quickly for you.
  7. Once the sketch is approved, I'll finish it and send it to you! Easy as pie!

Turnaround

Turnaround depends on complexity. Simple commissions are typically finished if not the same day I start working on them, then the next day I'm working on commissions. Complex commissions typically take longer.

Your spot on the queue will determine when in the future I'll begin working on it, so keep an eye on the queue on my deviantart page (just below the Journal widget). It's updated frequently.

If something comes up that delays my work, I'll let you know, either through an email if it affects you personally or through a journal post if it affects my whole queue.

Contractual Stuff

(In this, I'm going to use 'the Image' to refer to the finished product of your commission!)

Your Rights
  • You can share and post the Image wherever you want! But you *MUST* credit me.

  • If you haven't paid me my rights fee, you cannot sell the Image or put the Image on merchandise you intend to sell.
My Rights
  • I can post and use this Image in my portfolio, and for other self-promotional purposes, such as on business cards or advertisements for my work.

  • I'm going to be signing the Image, which generally includes a non-intrusive watermark. I will not be providing a copy without it. Sorry!

  • If you chose to receive a discount to allow me to sell prints of your Image, then I'm totally allowed to do so! I will also retain all profits from sales.
The Image Itself
  • There are no refunds for finished Images! You can certainly request a refund on an unfinished Image. In that case, you'll be charged for all work completed plus a 20% refund fee.

  • You will receive the Image on time and in the format requested -- but deadlines are based on communication occurring in a timely manner! I am not responsible for the Image being late, if you don't get revisions back to me in time to finish! If something comes up beyond my power that will delay your commission beyond its due date, I will let you know straight away.

  • I will not start work on the Image until I'm fully paid. If your turn comes up on the queue and you haven't paid in full, I will merely skip over you and start on the next one. Once you've paid in full, I'll begin work on the Image!

  • If requested, I will do 1 major revision on the Image in the sketch stage. A major revision includes up to a full and complete redraw of the sketch. Any further revisions are subject to my revision fee. If I determine the revision is the result of my own mistake, I will fix it for free!

  • Once I receive payment, you'll be added to my queue! Your commission is 100% guaranteed, although extenuating circumstances may occasionally change the order in the queue.

Recent Updates

4/11/14 - Added the contractual bits; adjusted the Process to not reference specific prices because who wants to update ANOTHER place when prices change??

3/17/14 - Updated thumbnails, moved discount to the top. Rush fee now has tiers.

3/14/14 - Soft shading is now $20.

3/11/14 - Colored characters are now $30 each, and cel shading is $15. Rush fee has also been raised to $30.

3/3/14 - Added the rush fee and reprinting rights fee.

2/18/14 - Complex commissions are reopened, although have a higher price due to the amount of time I spend on them. The 10% discount is now added to the list, the turnaround section has been updated, and soft shading's new price has been added. A link to my payment options post was also added.

1/13/14 - Revisions now cost extra. The process has been updated. Soft shading is a different style so the thumbnails have been updated accordingly. Turnaround has been updated. Inked drawings have been removed in favor of avatars.

11/4/13 -Given the time-consuming nature of drawing armor, adding armor is equivalent to a separate character.

10/12/13 - Complex commissions are now unavailable; inked commissions are bumped up to $15 a character while sketches are $10/character.

9/24/13 - Backgrounds have been split into three categories. Freebie backgrounds are simple shapes (probably circles) that I throw in with a gradient and possibly a little motif. These are 'artist's choice'. Simple Backgrounds are half-price backgrounds that aren't as in-depth as the complex backgrounds but still have enough work going into them that they're not free. And finally, Complex Backgrounds are in-depth backgrounds in the style of MLP. These take a while and are thus priced appropriately. Not sure which background suits your picture? Ask me and I'll quote you.
Also, I've updated some of the thumbnails for more art.
